Another day, another Lindsey.
"So dad"
"Yeah Lindsey?"
You know how I've been really moody lately?"
"Uh...yeah!"
"Hah! Sucks for you."
Then every door in the house slammed shut, a bolt of lightning that could have supplied power to an entire medium sized town split the largest tree in our backyard down to the roots and hail the size of marbles and golfballs started pelting the roof. Oh, god...are those locusts?
(Jeez)

Ferns under the moonlight
How they look massed together in fields and by the side of streams.
And the way they unfurl. Especially when viewed late at night. Under a brilliant full moon.

Another day, another trip to the dumpster to see what's for lunch
This is Bernadette. She doesn't like me much. Actually she doesn't like anyone much. I think she tolerates me because I give her money for food and coffee.
When I first met her, she stared at my camera and told me I better not take any pictures of her. She scared me. A lot. But I made a decision at that moment. I told her that I take pictures to help tell stories; that being homeless is an incredibly horrifying thing to me and maybe if I take enough pictures, something will change. And then I started to walk away. I got about fifteen feet when she yelled "you're really not gonna take any f*ing pictures?"
"I told her 'nope' You asked me not to and you scare me."
She cracked a smile.
"Good"
"So can I take a picture?"
"One."
This goes out to some of my new friends in Portugal...Filipe, Felix, Alexandre, Nuno, Guida.
Stay inspired. No matter what.

Things that go bump in the night
First, you hear the tortured mewling. Then spy the erratic movements out of the corner of your sleep-filled eyes. More like shadows.. What time is it? Where am I? Who's there? WHAT'S THERE? Then a sound like malicious laughter but with a horrible pain-filled quality. Closer. CLOSER... then it jumps...no, leaps onto the bed with a speed and purpose as if moving in for a quick kill. It happens so fast, you have no time to scream.
"Oh, it's only you" he says with quivering voice while his pulse pounds in his chest.
You just came to keep me company. He reaches out tentatively a receives a raspy lick and contented, rumbling purr.
What pretty eyes you have. And so friendly...but, wait, is her tongue forked?

Emerging from shadows

I like to talk. (Call it an occupational hazard.) Traveling as I do allows me to meet all sorts of people. I've made it a rule to speak to every single one of them before taking a photo. It feels like the respectful thing to do. And I end up having some of the most fascinating, thought-provoking, perspective inducing conversations. And then as I'm taking pictures (which has become my daily mental/visual exercise regimen) I can see the stories I just heard play out on their faces. These are incredibly powerful moments for me. I am lucky. So very lucky.
